the way legolas looks in the trailer bugs me. orlando bloom hasn’t aged that much but it looks like they tried to cover up non-existant aging with too much makeup or cgi. idk maybe this is just me being nitpicky is it me?
I think part of it has to do with them using different contacts than they used in the first films. Originally they had problems with the blue contacts because they blended too much with Orlando’s dark brown eye color (it’s really noticeable in TTT at Helm’s Deep where every time the lightning strikes you can see the outline of the contacts against his eyes but otherwise it’s really hard to see). It looks like they went with a more opaque set this time.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the RED cameras they use to film the Hobbit desaturate the their footage. That’s why Tauriel’s hair and clothing are so garish in color in the still but her clothing and hair is more subdued in the trailer. Over-saturating everything helps them from having to spend more time in post production color correcting everything.
Unfortunately, it looks like the overcompensated this time.
